While blog-surfing this past week I came across an excellent rebuttal to the heresies coming out of the ‘neo-whatever’ end of the Episcopal church. If you’re interested you can read the rebuttal here.
So this is what the Bishop of Pittsburgh, along with my pastors and many other clergy in the Pittsburgh diocese, are fighting against. Seriously. Stop what you’re doing and take a look at the 12 Theses in A Call for a New Reformation by Bishop Spong of Newark NJ. (Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the theses.)
This is the first time I’ve seen an actual position paper in its entirety, not quoted or sound-bited out of context by some form of media. It’s even worse than I had imagined. God bless all the pastors and bishops who have taken a stand against this for our sakes and for the sake of the Gospel. God bless all the congregations who have lost their churches for refusing to go along with this.
This cretin has the nerve to compare himself favorably with Martin Luther, place Darwin above the Bible, and Freud above God himself! Somebody please send this guy a “Nietzsche is dead — God” t-shirt.
BTW does anyone else see the irony in Spong’s position when you put points #1 and #12 back-to-back? Dude… I thought you just said God was dead.
