“The love which is in God, being rich and ungrudging, gives more than one asks from it.” – St. Irenaeus
I came across this quote while researching a school paper. Irenaeus lived back in the 100s — one of the ‘early church fathers’ — and he was a very wise man, a pastor and martyr for the faith. I hear in his quote an echo of Paul’s words words to the Ephesians: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (3:20-21)
Whatever tasks or situations we face this week, it’s worth a moment to pause and reflect on God’s incredible generosity, His peace, guidance, and wisdom — and so much more — that is available just for the asking.
