This is a challenge I have given our adult class at the Presby church and I thought I would share it with you all too.
If Advent is a time of waiting — waiting for Jesus to arrive — then we should be watching for Him. He has actually already come, 2000 years ago as a baby in Bethlehem, and what we’re waiting for now is His return… but in between the Then and the Not Yet, He is present in our Now. And in this Advent season we should be watching for Him in the Now.
So here’s the challenge: every day during Advent, watch for ways in which God touches your life in clear and unexpected ways. This could be something as huge as a miracle healing or something as small as His “yes” when you ask for a nearby parking space because your feet are hurting so badly. I expect for most of us His actions will seem something like a coincidence (except the word “coincidence” somehow just doesn’t fit). It’s what my friend HJ likes to call a “God-incidence”.
So be watching for Him. And when God breaks into your daily life, share it with someone. In fact, why not share it here? I’ll track my own ‘God-incidences’ here too.
