Modern-day Martyrs
The July issue of Trinity, the newsletter of the Episcopal diocese of Pittsburgh, tells the story of three men recently martyred for their faith. Friends of a student at Trinity School for Ministry who were living in Turkey, these three men were “attacked, bound, tortured for hours and finally stabbed to death because of their Christian faith”.
The wife of one of the martyrs responded publicly to their attackers by saying “Oh God forgive them for they know not what they do.”
Replied the Turkish press, known for its hostility to Christianity: “She said in one sentence what 1,000 missionaries in 1,000 years could never do.”
