“…each generation stands on the shoulders of its predecessors like acrobats in a vast human pyramid.” — Justo Gonzalez, “The Story of Christianity”
And that’s why church history is so important: it’s His-story. The story of those who God has inspired, and who have stayed faithful to Jesus down through the ages, in spite of persecution from without and heresies from within.
And that’s why ministry and outreach are so important: because the generation(s) before ours have given their lives — whether in service or in martyrdom — so we could know Jesus. It’s not enough to just sit around on our butts in our comfy churches feeling blessed. We need to be about being the next level of the pyramid for the generation(s) to come.
